LAHORE, Secretary Health Muhammad Jehanzeb Khan said that medicines allegedly having adverse reaction have been retrieved from 8,500 out of 46,000 registered patients of Punjab Institute of Cardiology(PIC) while remaining patients are being contacted through available data to avert casualties.Addressing a press conference, along with Parliamentary Secretary for Health in Punjab Assembly Dr Saeed Elahi and Prof Faisal Masood,here on Monday, he said that special arrangements had been made in all public sector hospitals to handle these cardiac patients. A professor will be assigned to perform this task while eight teams of experts had also been constituted to probe into the matter regarding manufacturing, marketing and storage affairs. Supply of these drugs has already been discontinued and alternative medicines are being supplied to the PIC patients, he added. Responding to a question regarding the sealing of pharmaceutical factory which provided these medicines, he said samples of these medicines had been dispatched to France, Singapur and Brussels where drugs testing laboratories would test these medicines and further action would be taken in the light of reports.All responsibles will be taken to task and prosecution will also be conducted, he added.
