According to the meteorological department , the epicenter of the earthquake of magnitude 7.7 120 km southwest of Khuzdar in Balochistan province , at a depth of 23 km. The U.S. Geological Survey measured the quake at 7.8.

Tremors that began at 16:29 (PST) were felt for two minutes in several cities of Sindh and Balochistan.

Emergency was declared by the Chief Minister of Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik Baloch in the district Awaran the province was the most affected by the earthquake. Officials said the shaking demolished dozens of houses of mud and it was feared that the death toll could rise.

Sixteen people were killed in Baididal and Parindar areas . Six people were killed in the region Labash , while seven bodies were recovered from the area Tarteij . 16 other people were killed in the region Mangoli Awaran . A sampling building also collapsed in the district .

DG ISPR Major General Asim Bajwa Khuzdar tweeted that would be the basis for relief efforts and night flying helicopters with doctors were on their way . He added that 300 soldiers were busy with rescue efforts and strength increase to 1,000 by late morning .

Talking to Geo News, Chief Meteorologist Muhammad Riaz said: "It was a major earthquake and major destruction is likely."

Residents of cities where tremors were felt ran out of their offices and homes on the road. Furthermore Awaran there were no reports of significant damage or death in other cities.

Mild tremors were also felt in North India , Iran, United Arab Emirates and Oman.

In April, an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 centered in southeastern Iran, near the border with Balochistan , killed 41 people and affected more than 12,000 on the Pakistani side of the border.

A 7.6 magnitude earthquake in 2005 centered in Azad Jammu and Kashmir , has killed at least 73,000 dead and millions homeless in one of the worst natural disasters struck Pakistan .
