Pakistan former captain Majid Khan was the first batsman from Pakistan to score a One Day International (ODI) century. He scored 109 runs off 93 balls (16 fours and one six) against England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. Majid also took one wicket in the match.
Majid’s was playing his second ODI and his century helped Pakistan in chasing 245 runs target. In this match Pakistan’s world cup winning captain Imran Khan and Asian Bradman Zaheer Abbas made his debut.
It was 14th ODI of cricket history. David Lloyd scored 116* with help of 8 fours and one six. David Lloyd and Majid Khan both scored only one century in their ODI career which was in this match. Majid who was born in 1946 was an attacking batsman and his 786 runs in 23 ODI matches (37.42 average) came at a strike rate of 74.71 which was higher at that time.
Majid Khan is cousin of Imran Khan and Javed Burki. His father Mohammad Jahangir Khan was also a Test cricketer. Majid’s son Bazid Khan also played international cricket and has one Test and five ODI to his name
