ISLAMABAD: Former Test captain and fast bowling legend Wasim Akram on Wednesday said the appointment of his pace partner Waqar Younis as head coach of national team would benefit Pakistan.
Talking to a private news channel, Wasim reckoned Waqar’s appointment as head coach was a great step for Pakistan cricket, noting it would certainly benefit the team that would feature in next year’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Waqar had always been an inspiration for youngsters and was one of the best cricketers Pakistan had produced, Wasim stressed.
To a question, Wasim underlined all the coaches (to be appointed after a while) for different departments would have to work as one unit in order to get desired results.
The 104-Test veteran emphasised Waqar’s immediate aim should be to prepare the team for the upcoming busy season which also included the 2015 World Cup.
Wasim hoped the current changes in PCB set-up were going to prove beneficial for the national team.
