Saudi Arabia considers easing citizenship requirements

Children born to a Saudi mother and foreign father will be able to more easily claim Saudi citizenship under a proposed change to the citizenship law.
Authorities are reportedly considering removing a requirement for the Saudi woman’s father and grandfather to be Saudi citizens in order for her children to also become nationals, according to Arab News.
Prospective citizens must obtain seven points before they can apply. If the mother’s past two paternal ancestors were both Saudi citizens, her children would automatically accrue six points, while other family members count for only two points.
Saudi Arabia has a high expatriate population and there are thousands of mixed-race marriages in the kingdom.

Many children born in such marriages live their entire lives without being able to secure Saudi citizenship.
It is believed easing the citizenship law would benefit thousands of people born to Saudi mothers.
